Schlubbin'

A couple weekends ago, I went home.

I really needed the trip, too.

I had fallen while trying to catch a bus on my way home on the Thursday evening and I was covered in bruises and nasty scrapes. When it happened, I was so startled I began to bawl like a baby in the street. Luckily, my uncle was able to come get me because I was pretty shaken up by the whole thing. But I really just wanted my mammy to hug me.

So, when I did finally get home, it was all about affection, good food and company and being comfy and at ease. When we went for lunch on Sunday, I was doing my trademark luxe schlubbing. Basically, this involves super-soft and breathable fabric choices with loose fits made somewhat more elegant by pairing them with a more structured jacket (still in a casual material like denim here), statement sunglasses and my uber-gorgeous Newbridge bag.

Outfit post - That rare and wily beast.

An outfit from the other day - quite cutesy but made up of classic, timeless pieces. It's a good example of the days I wear something very put together when all I'm doing is emailing and stuff at home. The boots and bag are some of my all-time favourites and are pretty stand-out pieces on their own. To avoid the look becoming overly busy, I maintained a largely neutral palette of browns, greys and cream. The blue of the dress is the only real colour. A Ralph Lauren piece that is a show-stopper on its own, it equally styles well when layered with other pieces. The material is shirt-like and so crisp and lovely.

On a side-note, sorry I've been so crap about posting. I've been both busy and mopey - a deadly combination! Expect more in the coming days.

Gothic Revival

...I mean the architecture, obviously. Not quite sure where the outfit falls...I'm crazy about the building I'm pictured in front of - it's my local church and I did my dissertation on its architect, John Bourke. No one had really studied him before so mine was the first in-depth study of his career which was pretty cool. They've even put my work on file in The Irish Architectural Archive!

But back to the outfit. If I had to give you its recipe it'd be one part grunge revival, one part punk and about 100 parts Colette. Such a quintessentially me outfit - comfort, black, oversize on top and skinny on bottom and minimal accessories with a nod to my musical roots.

I had forgotten how fun outfit posts were - expect a little more of them from now on (hopefully)! Woop!

Sports day.

This is a dress I love but wear infrequently. It's very unforgiving and I originally bought it as a teenager before I lost the puppy fat. Now I feel confident enough to wear it in general but need to be in the right mood to do so. I was hanging out with Daniel today and as we were seeing each other for the first time in a couple weeks, I'll admit, that I was putting extra effort into looking cute. However, I remembered that he wasn't hugely impressed by trying hard and I jumped at any excuse to slip into something a little more comfortable; a schlubby tank and comfy (but tiny) shorts. Still sportswear inspired and cute but a little more relaxed and a little more me.
