One Good Tee

I cannot remember the last time that I did an outfit post but I felt really inspired to go back to my blogging roots and pop up some pictures of clothes that I actually wore IRL.

And the main motivating factor was this tee that I got at the Grimes gig in Dublin on Tuesday.

Not only do I love a good band tee and Grimes but I really like that her own artwork is featured on her merch. I made sure to buy it seriously oversized as it is the perfect statement tee that kind of does all the talking in an outfit. Basically, one good tee makes an outfit and allows you to look cool without having to think/try too hard.

Paired with some leather-look leggings, my trusty heeled ankle boots, a vintage black coat on top and a striped turtleneck underneath, there's a good balance of edgy and comfy. The beret softens the look and makes it cuter and more playful while the silver bag breaks up the otherwise entirely monochromatic look.

The result? Something I think looked quite cool, took two seconds to put together and felt like I was wearing pajamas.

Playlist XX is special; it marks twenty times that I've shared this part of myself with you guys. It marks twenty times I've gotten to squee over the music I'm loving with a much wider audience than my group of friends. And I think that's pretty darn cool.

So, to mark the occasion, this playlist will be coming in two parts. Part I is the music that represents where my taste has evolved to whereas Part II will showcase where I've come from.

An effing gamut of emotions. A gamut, I tells ya.

Not only is there plenty of awesome tuneage going on here, the Warpaint and Florrie videos offer some serious style. Hair envy a-plenty but I'm also loving the normcore/cool vibe of the Warpaint girls - tees and jeans with the right tuck here, the right silhouette there are all you need. I'm especially loving the layering of a kilt over skinnies - who knew that could work? And SO well? Not I. 

And, well, Florrie ... she's always flawless. So easy-cool. Metallics with French-girl perfectly rumpled hair, colourful eyes with natural lips. Sigh. So perfect.

Harper's Bazaar - I'm liking your taste in...well, everything.

Grimes + Angel Haze + Lagerfeld + Roitfeld = a singularly perfect combination of fashion and It-Girl elements in order to produce a spread entitled "Singular Beauty - An Homage to the Diversity of Women" for the September 2013 issue of Harper's.

The two musicians were among a host of amazing women from various industries that came together to make the piece. And, no offence, to the others but they were the figures of most interest to me. Aside from the fact that I'm a major fan of the music of both, I also love the styling going down for both - especially Angel Haze. That is some awesome androgyny right there. Sharp.

However, I do think the baseball cap with the Saint Laurent look on Grimes is rather inspired. Who would have guessed that it would work so well?

Grimes and Hedi

It's no secret that I'm, like, in love with Grimes. Perfection - music, style, and, epecially, art. Her work in Vogue Hommes Japan was awesome. Now she and Saint Laurent Paris are teaming up to create a capsule tee collection. They're for boys but I would so rock one. Hint, hint.

Gimme, gimme, gimme.

...because what I listen to so affects how I dress. Buzz words: suave, hip-hop, suave (as if I could ever be suave) and sexy (samesies).

Grimes looks kawaii in anime-inspired video.

Grimes at her Grimesiest in an awesome new anime-inspired music video for the song "Genesis". As it is directed by Boucher herself, you can really see her own stamp on it and, like the video to "Oblivion", it's really playful and energetic. I love the Japanese school-girl look she has going on, especially the hair! She's just so adorable in this! And, as per, it's a very stylised, visually rich video with lots going on and lots to see. The supporting cast of neo-warriors and hip/crazy friends are also dressed impeccably awesome. LOVE IT.

Claire Boucher - what can I say? She's been on my radar since "Vanessa". "Visions" is probably, in fact definitely is, my album of the year so far. I've listened to the thing on repeat for about a week now and it's still not old. There are so many layers to it that I only fall more and more deeply in love with the sound. Her accompanying videos are beautiful. So, that's a check for the music. What about the lady herself? The more I read about her, interviews where she has no qualms about telling it like she sees it and stories of how crazy and rather romantic (in the more general sense of the word, as in sensibility) she is, the more I grow to adore her, too. And then there is the style; dramatic hairstyles with severe cuts or wild colours, metallics, baggy shirts, great accessories (including a particularly famous ring), a play between sporty and grungey, tough and "feminine", rock and r'n'b.

Look, listen, adore.
