Modani

A while back Modani, a furniture brand, contacted me and asked if I might show how I'd "style" a room, using decor as I would accessories for an outfit. I agreed right away because it seemed like a fun challenge and I've been decorating myself lately, so it's been on my mind.

I love Interior Design. If I had ten million lives to live, it would have been one of the career paths I'd liked to have pursued. Alas, it was not to be. But putting a room together made me re-examine my taste and style from a different perspective.

The centre of the room is this sofa, the Oslo Sectional Couch. And, really, it speaks a lot to my style that I chose it. As in my clothes, comfort is key. There's room to lounge and browse the net or read, to fit lots of friends and family when I host something. It's not leather so it wouldn't be cold in winter or hot in summer. But it's still sleek, restrained and stylish. Comfort and style are always key to me.

Colours, overall, are muted with natural wood alongside lots of greys. Pops of colour show my playful side and, with the variety of textures, prevent monotony or flatness to the look. And the overall aesthetic is minimal, with touches of Scandinavian and Irish design influences alongside a wee bit of a retro undercurrent. It blends styles and eras together but never throws too much at you.

A home really does reflect an owner! If only my real place looked like this and had those views!

Sadly, the company is US based but, as many readers are in that neck of the woods (or Canada, where they also ship) check them out!

Alexander Wang - It Pieces for another Season.

I predict it now, it's fairly - if not patently (geddit?) - obvious that Alexander Wang has knocked it out of the park once again and created a collection full of stand-out pieces that will sell out world wide. He has a real knack for that - creating the must-haves that women all over will lust after. Which is funny because lust and sensuality are key components of the appeal of the collection. The Parental Advisory pieces, the boxer shorts, the shirts and all the pieces emblazoned with his name will be at the top of many shopping lists.

Now, it's no news that I'm a major fan. Like, seriously. He's gone and done it again with all the things I like; unobvious sexiness, playing on the whole male-female dynamic and putting uncomplicated but striking pieces together. As has been noted in many reviews of the show, his girl looks like one who rolled out of bed and is fabulously undone. She looks like she is this cool without trying at all. And that is an amazingly appealing notion to fashion people and normal women alike.

A nineties, early nougthies aesthetic runs through the collection in much of the silhouettes, fabric choices and return of logo-mania but, as a whole, it remains undeniably fresh and modern. The cool, limited palette isn't very S/S but is decidedly New York and Wang.

Wang's strength of vision is, once again, apparent in his latest showing. His girl is as unmistakable as she is stylish and much as he creates pieces with ephemeral appeal, his collections are permeated with that sense of style that Yves Saint Laurent once specified as being different from fashion.

Style File: Emma Stone

Clearly, I love Emma Stone. I've posted on her a couple times now. But I wanted to do an overview of her style; it's cool, young and she's not afraid of trying new things. On the street, her choice in clothing is simple, relaxed and very cool and on the red carpet it's pretty or sexy and always the dresses I would have picked from any given show. The colour coordination is always spot on and the use of accessories hits the perfect note. She's one of the few that never gets it wrong.

Also, she and Andrew Garfield are like the cutest couple ever. And, y'know, this:

I'm quite the brogue.

One of my favourite outfits of late. I wore it a few days ago and think I didn't post it at the time because I had already done a post on something else that day. Don't want to go over-board and spam everyone like I did at the start of the summer when I had too much free time on my hands!

There's a lot I like here; blue tones, simplicity, modernity, menswear inspiration and ease. And I do love clothes that make life easy. Hot as pencil skirts and the like are, they don't promote the amount of movement that somehow ends up in my daily life despite being ridiculously lazy. And these brogues and blazer are two of my favourite items in my wardrobe/best buys ever so combining them is always great.

Guy clothing in a girl way.

I haven't done an outfit post in a bit so here's a quick one! The tee is a recent purchase and is from the men's section in Penney's, I like the idea of wearing guy's clothing in a way that is not manly at all. This outfit comprises a lot of things I like, actually, despite being simple; menswear, luxe sportiness, really modern, urban dressing, staying within a tonal family and breaking "fashion rules". Yes, I've paired black and navy once again. Shock horror. Also, excuse the mess, for some reason my brother is the only one in the house with a full-length mirror - go figure.

Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2012.

I'm not really feeling Wang's A/W 2012 collection - a first, as I adore him to the max - but his Pre-Fall collection for this year is lovely; wonderfully modern, at times tailored, other times draped, sometimes androgynous, other times feminine. The palate is limited; largely grey, black, white and red with some pops of colour like yellow.

I adore the pleated coat-dress that is traditionally masculine on top and feminine on bottom. Other highlights are the leather peplums, the use of dresses or long tops over trousers (a look I love but find difficult to pull off) and the tailored shirts, waistcoats and jackets. A cohesive yet varied collection that would suit many a woman.

Sidebar: I always love his models. Major hair envy.
