Ripped

...or the closest I'll ever get to that description.

I'm all about the boyfriend jeans for comfort and breathing room and just looking cool. Rips and fraying only improve the look. Yet, however much I love this pair found in a random boutique by a brand I never remember and have never heard of before, they sacrifice the comfort factor for the aesthetic appeal. Layers of stiff treated denim make them look the way they do. Which is cool as they have a more fitted look, more tailored (for lack of a better word). Not cool is trying to cycle in them. Especially cycling twelve and a half kilometres in them.

Still, despite the casual flannel, the tousled hair, the Cons and rips and tears...the jeans pull it all together and dress up casual looks despite their own casual nature. They're just such a talking piece that they elevate an outfit from merely being comfortable to making a statement. And I do love when an outfit will do the talking for me or a single piece will make me look like a together human being with a plan in mind while getting dressed...

You guys have any pieces that do the talking/work for you?

Reeeeal comfy.

A super-comfy outfit from the other day. It photographed weird, probably the camera angle, so the proportions look all wacky. The last full-length is probably the most accurate. Another take on the pyjama influence trend with lots of soft cottons, loose fits and some worn-in vintage oversized denim.

Keep it simple.

Messing around with flashes and shadows today. I find shadows endlessly fascinating! Pretty simple outfit and I've come to the conclusion that bold simplicity is my thing, much as I admire other aesthetics. I just feel that this is the best fit for me. I like clean lines in an outfit and solid basics that can be added to and built upon if I end up doing something other than messing about the house. Besides, I climb things and run around too often for anything overly fussy. Saying that, however, I could be wearing anything tomorrow! Wouldn't be the first time I spent a research day in an evening gown...

Fluffy slippers as an accessory?

I spent most of the day in an outfit inspired by stereotypically slobby middle-aged men in the white wife-beater - quite trailer trash - but I gave it a fashion twist. Both the tank and shirt are oversized River Island attire at its best. Often their clothes are cooler when bought in larger sizes and worn in a more relaxed way and I love playing with traditional wardrobe staples that are worn at unusual lengths or with different silhouettes. I'm photographed here in my favourite fluffy slippers reading Dubliners upside-down (the idea of my brother/photographer for the day) and sipping a really awesome Japanese beer (Kirin Ichiban) that we had with our fancy family dinner. The overall effect is a confused mish-mash of literature, fancy beers, fashion and slobbiness. I could have put on real shoes for the photo but I like what the slippers brought to the outfit.

Hanging with the clann.

Spent the day with my little cousins and my siblings. Aren't the kids the cutest? We were playing tennis and games and climbing big rocks in warm enough weather ergo my large muscle-tee style dress over Penney's pyjama pants and Topshop espadrille-runners. Another "screw you" to that old navy and black rule and I really don't think to adverse results either. Fun day of chaos and laid-back style.

Working 9 to 5, trying to stave off boredom...

I spent most of the day looking like Mario...if he had worked for Tetra Pak, that is. I borrowed Daddy's overalls as I had offered, out of extreme boredom, to paint the en suite that my sister and I share. Worst idea ever. I had no idea how much work was involved! Also, painting ceilings is a bitch. I have new-found respect for Michelangelo because I'm achey after painting one itty room. Once I escaped the desert-like climate inside the overalls, I had no desire to put too much effort into dressing or to wear anything too tight or restricting.

I also remained ridiculously warm all day afterwards, ergo the fan as an accessory. I actually used it - not just for show. I left my hair to go crazy after my shower as I'm a big fan of beachy hair and also, the effort of doing anything after today. Raising my arms above my head is an issue...but aside from being a baby about it, I'm proud of my day's work, the room's looking good!
