Happy Birthday, Flowerbomb!

Secretly (or maybe not so secretly) I'm a nerdy old granny. I enjoy grocery shopping, large jumpers and slippers, love a potter around a stately home, have an intense relationship with tea and would love to take a Japanese flower arranging course. Which is why, when Victor & Rolf took myself and some fellow bloggers and writers on to do a flower arranging morning (not Japanese specifically but still pretty damn cool) to celebrate ten years of Flowerbomb, I was beyond giddy.

I mean, walking into a room filled with flowers may be a normal occurrence for a lucky few but it was rather a treat for me. And, while pink has never really been my colour, I was nearly utterly overwhelmed by all that pretty! Pastel overload, much?

Hosted by Brown Thomas, who exclusively stocked Flowerbomb in Ireland from its launch in 2005 and for many years afterwards, and lead by the wonderful people of The Flower Factory, Rathmines, it was majorly informative and fun. Plus, rarely has my house smelled quite this good.

Flowerbomb was launched by lifelong bestos and couturiers Victor & Rolf during their A/W 2005 couture show. As each show by the house is a performance, they came up with the idea of intertwining the launch with the theatrics of their clothes. Their mantra is to escape reality by creating dreams and a vision of Utopia, always while maintaining a sense of humour. Flowerbomb was their antidote to reality, a quest to transform anything into beauty and positivity, taking the image of a bomb and making it something pretty and refreshing. The bottle evokes a bomb but also glitters like a pink diamond, something rare and special. With the scent itself, they wanted to do something a little unique. It is an "edible" floral, more complex than most perfumes of its kind, sweet, powdery and rich. And it is an explosion of flowers.

Which is how we ended up making bouquets. We were putting together our own explosions of flowers featuring many of the blooms that are used in the scent - freesias, peonies and roses, amongst others.

To finish, we used a little of the Flowerbomb dry oil to treat our busy hands and all descended from the building, bouquets in hand - quite the sight, I'm sure!

I had kinda forgotten just how heavenly Flowerbomb actually is. I highly recommend checking it out. And flower arranging. That's damn relaxing.

Dolce and Gabbana S/S 2013 - Campaign Shots

Exciting! I'm loving the direction Dolce & Gabbana has taken in the last few seasons - the brocade and embroidery, lace, florals, big jewellery, plaited buns. These shots make me want to go back to Italy right away and to skip straight to my summer wardrobe. Really feeling the palette and the stripes!

Video: Perry Ellis, Sui, De La Renta S/S 1993.

It's funny how dated that famous Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis collection looks on the runway versus in stills...This video shows that collection in all it's glory (and misses) as well as Anna Sui and Oscar de la Renta for S/S 1993. There's a lot of unflattering tailoring, hooker-makeup and florals my granny would label old-fashioned going on but then there are moments of clarity. It seems that it is those moments being focused on in the current nineties nostalgia, and while many will bemoan this on the grounds of pastiche etc, I think this video really highlights the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of that era in order to create awesome looks now. Besides, bemoaners, that's what we do for every other era - including pre-modern eras as can be seen in the baroque trend hitting up designers and highstreet alike this coming season. I can see why people are so attracted to the period, especially grunge aesthetics, as it was kind of the last musical genre that defined a generation and, therefore, their wardrobes. Nowadays, we're so awash with influences that it can be dizzying.

I know I've crapped on at length about this topic before but I think this video makes for a good visual aid. And, if nothing else, it's cool to see the Supermodel pack strutting their stuff in their heyday.

Darkish Shadows.

I'm still busy writing so posts will continue to be short but I think you guys have heard me rant enough as it is. Especially considering that my next post will be number 100! Wow, I've been a bored/busy little soldier this summer...Anyhoo, today I was clashing prints, wearing detachable collars and looking towards a photography aesthetic of my own rather than ripping people off again. I'm a big fan of ugly-pretty as showcased here in the more hyper-styled outfit than usual and plants juxtaposed with the derelict shed. It may be my inner impressionist but I also adore the play of light and shadows; is it not one of the most beautiful things in the world?

Random outfit again. I'm kind of all over the place at the moment so I guess it just reflects that...I got up disastrously late yet again which made me feel like an absolute disgrace. However, then I spent the day with Mam which was kind of really nice. We went clothes shopping, then sweet shopping and finally makeup shopping. The search for pink hair-dye failed miserably, it's impossibly difficult to find good quality colours that don't occur naturally. Guess my hair will have to remain sans dip-dye for now.
