Heatons SS15

After the most horrendous bus journey of my life (i.e. traffic was so bad that a four minute walk took twenty minutes on the bus, before I abandoned ship and had to run into town, in shoes I'd yet to break in), I finally arrived at Fallon & Byrne for the Heatons SS15 press event this morning. Immediately I was welcomed with smiles, a goody bag and SO MUCH COLOUR.

Seriously though. I'm dying for a sunny holiday now.

If you're feeling the tropical vibes this summer, Heatons has got you covered.

The main trends that I could see were nautical, tropical and boho. There were floral swimsuits that were so Dolce, mesh lime coverups, cute little crochet waistcoats, uber-cool block colour sandals. Little straw hats for everyone - polka-dotted, floppy and massive or boyish. Cross-bodies and wellies to prepare you for festival season. Basically, everything and anything that you might need for this next season and all the events that come with it.

For the mens, a little less options but strong pieces. We're talking a splash of colour without being overly challenging - peachy tones, blue, navy, neutrals. The nautical theme was more predominant here with crisp striped shirts and cosy jumpers for cooling summer evenings.

And the kids' clothes! If there weren't clips being recorded for television I would have been squeeing all over the gaff! So, so cute. Pretty frills and pastel tones. Lime greens, azures and sweet little shirts.

As for the homewares, Heatons has kind of been developing a rather strong design aesthetic here recently. I had noticed it before. It's all a little rustic, retro and cute with just enough luxe elements to dress it up. Colour is, again, very much present with just the right amount of kitsch in bunting, imperfect finishes and playful patterns.

Cheered me right up, the whole thing did.

Overall, I was majorly impressed. Thanks so much to Heatons for having me and everyone there who made it so wonderful.

Special mention and thanks to Francesca from Tropical Popical - always love to see you guys at things! Plus, my nails are on point once more.

Get thee to Heatons this Christmas

Yesterday morning, Heatons launched their Christmas collections over breakfast. Starting the day off with Christmas stuff, a fashion show and the spread of food below isn't half bad. I mean, I can take getting up in the morning for this. And imagine getting up to it Christmas morning? Because that's what I recommend. The festive line is awesome - from cute decor, homeware, adorable kids clothes and super-impressive womenswear with just the right amount of tailoring.

Oh, and the prices? Still super-reasonable.

I'll be expecting the tux blazer and houndstooth coat in my stocking, Santa.

Better still, is that from tomorrow, their new and improved online store will be open - meaning you can have the goodies delivered right to your door or arrange for instore pick-up. Handy.

Check out my shots from the show and event below and check out the site when it goes live tomorrow.

Has the Christmas excitement begun for you too?

Little Gem: Irish Design Shop.

If you hadn't gathered by now, I'm a big fan/supporter of Irish design. So, when I spotted The Irish Design Shop ages ago, I intended to pop in. At the time, I didn't get a chance but when I passed it the other day as I moved from library to library (Noticing a theme here? Ugh. My life.) I decided to make the time.

And, boy, was I glad I did!

Originally established online in 2008 and then seen in various incarnations via pop-ups and a space in the RHA, the current Drury Street location really does the shop justice.  Light falls beautifully and illuminates the products softly. A range of different products are available in store; items of clothing, homeware, jewellery, artwork, books and more. And, as you might imagine, everything is wonderfully designed, down to the information leaflets and shopping bags.

There's a real sense of tradition in the space through tonal properties, materials and motifs but also a sense of how these things can be relevant today. Traditional practices sit alongside contemporary innovation. Some items are practical or elegant, others charming or amusing. Really, it's hard not to find something inside to fall in love with and a quick analysis of the demographics during my visit show interest among both locals and tourists, young and old. It's pretty lovely to see really.

I was familiar with some of the brands stocked but others were lovely new surprises and I was aching to buy some prints from Damn Fine Print Studio. Maybe next time. I said that a lot, actually. So, here's my shots and wishlist!
