How're'ya?

Hey, guys! Sorry I've been crap with posts as of late...I did warn you that college starting up again would cause this...Anyway, this post is gonna be a lazy one because I took lots of pictures today but left my camera cable in my apartment and then went home for the weekend. Goddamn. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has been reading (I'm about to get soppy and emotional because it's the end of summer). I've met a few people in the last couple of days who have said the loveliest of things. So, I genuinely thank you all because it's been a bit of a learning curve and there's probably been some rocky moments that you've stuck with me through. I don't know who I love more for this; the people who already know/love me or the randomers who found me through this blog and became a bit of a pep squad. Either which way you're both great!

In other news, as soon as I get my shizz together there will be a major stylistic overhaul of this blog. Perhaps even a move to another platform (as good to me as Blogger has been). I want to go for something simpler, cleaner and more reflecting of where my aesthetic has gone. That's one thing I can definitely say for the blog, it's taught me a lot about myself and my personal style.

I also want to get an online photography portfolio set up because my pictures are generally better when I'm not trying to be both model (noise of derision) and photographer. We'll see if and when this actually happens.

Another thing is that I stumbled upon this blog (http://leloveimage.blogspot.ie/) and it's sister blogs by accident and they are all awesome for various reasons so you should definitely check them all out!

Lazy Sunday post...

...not because I'm having a lovely, lazy Sunday but because I'm headed to work in less than an hour and only got in from it at 4 last night.  So here are two fashion related links I found interesting:

Dr. Martens Autumn 2012 campaign shows you how exactly to be a hip young thing. And how you'll never be as hip as these people. Nah, seriously though, it's quite emotionally stirring and captures being young quite well - even if it is a little contrived. It's funny to see the brand with such a high fashion style ad - just goes to show how far it's come.

The second link is to a gallery of images on vogue.it. It shows models in their day-to-day clothes and I LOVE seeing models on their days off.

Streetstyle III - Dublin

The last photo that I got of streetstyle in Dublin features two sisters - the coolest sisters in the world. I slightly chased them down the street but they were one pair I really couldn't let get away. It also was cool to find people together that were both dressed so well. I have yet to go, "Hi, can I take your photo for my blog?...Oh, no, not you, your friend..." I can imagine that's awkward so thanks to these guys for both being so awesome. The fact that there's a very soft, vintage outfit with a tougher military and bondage inspired outfit is really cool. These are two worlds that look surprisingly well together! I'm also loving the vintage makeup bag as a handbag - so inspired. And really - could they be cuter? Squee- fest over.

Friday the Thirteenth....

...and no real disaster befell me. Quite a nice day, in fact. Sure, I had to get up before ten in the morning (I know, I'm a lazy, terrible person) but it kinda went uphill from there. Shopped in Dublin and tramped all over the city with Mammy and my sister, had lunch out, got free money from Mammy, had cake and tea, bought more cake, helped Dad move and build furniture, had tea and cake again, scored one of Dad's old Aran jumpers, po-goed, go-carted, punned and hung out with my bro. To do all this in warmish, showery weather I went for my uber-reliable and practical Docs, a loose t-shirt dress in cream (which was lovely and airy when I got too warm), my trusty vintage cream blazer and thick-knit tights for warmth and rain protection - simplistic, functional, easy and chic and with a touch of Alexander Wang-esque sportiness. 

Flannel is my comfort blanket.

Today was one that could have easily spelled disaster; buses broke down and clouds looked ready to burst at any moment. However, I was pleasantly surprised by both the weather and just how awesome my friends are. It's nice to know that they'll come all the way to Hickville, Ireland, just to visit me. A tea crawl, sweet shop raid and hike meant lots of walking in post, and pre, rain conditions ergo my faithful Docs were cracked out and cleaned of paint only to be covered in mud. Never mind, (heh) they can take it! The necessity of the Docs and the fact that my favourite band tee was just washed lead to a grungier outfit than I had intended. It was comfy as heck, though, and Granny even commented that I was in a sensible "rig-out" for once. Getting up in the mornings doesn't agree with me, either, so my outfit for today was never going to be overly elaborate. 

To avoid too much pastiche I made sure that the entire look wasn't baggy (unflattering on me, anyhoo, being small in stature) by just wearing leggings on bottom, under the long tee and shirt worn alternately on top or around my waist for shape. The sunglasses put a cute twist on an androgynous look and also hearkened back to a famous red pair worn by Kurt Cobain while the crucifix mixed in goth influence. A kind of modern take on practical grunge for the girl about town (and nearby hills). x

The pros, cons and Docs of travel.

While I love going away I always dread packing. How do I know how I'll feel in a few days time? How can I plan ahead to dress my unpredictable moods? How do I choose between my clothes? It's a little heart-breaking to leave some behind. But that's really my own fault for being so damn sentimental.

I knew I had to be practical as my roommate warned me ahead of time that we'd be trekking around loads when we went to visit her but I also had to give myself enough clothes options so as not to feel stifled. The day I arrived was wet but humid so there were layers involved that could easily be lost if I became too warm. I also wore my Docs with longish shorts which was new. I needed tough shoes but even the idea of long pants made me sweat, ergo the compromise. I didn't think it would work but it did. The photos are kind of crap because I was in a new setting and had no photograph taking location established. Day two of the trip Sarah D had to take the photos for me which was super-nice of her but so awkward. I hate having my photo taken so this blog has been good at getting over that a little but has made me even more controlling about the who and how.

Rain, why you so stupid, stupid? Yup, big shocker, Irish weather is being crap. The almost entirely white outfit I was wearing this morning got traded in for something practical but super-super-bright. It's summer, goddammit, and I'm gonna dress like it! And then, y'know, put a raincoat on top of that...Met Bri-Bri and Sarah D (what a Sarah-filled week!) for one of our extended tea sessions today and I realised how thoroughly my life revolves around tea...sad. I'm also on a major Frank Ocean bender which means that the booty is out and the dancing when no one is looking is totally on. His songs are just so sexy...

Being an onion.

Went to wear the crop I bought while shopping yesterday with Sarah D today but failed as it was unreasonably cold. Damn you, Irish weather! Didn't you get the memo? It's sum-mer! But fret not, dear reader, the crop-top is still there, just under many, many layers. 

Began with the crop (with a fluorescent-green lace bra from UO underneath as there's a cut-out in back and I figure if the bra's gonna be showing you might as well make it a statement) and a skirt but soon the skirt became skinny jeans and I was adding a sweater and then a flannel shirt. As a result, the outfit's a little ramshackle but I was only lounging about the house today. Don't worry about my having the stomach out, either, I'm merely illustrating my onion-ness! I would never have my belly-button visible in public, (probably not even on the beach) the skirt I was originally wearing was high-waisted!
