Ashish A/W 2014-15: My inner-child is squeeing.

LIGHT-UP, FREAKING RUNNERS.

I've genuinely been saying I want a pair for a while now but for some reason, by and large, they don't make them for adults. But now Ashish is bringing them to Topshop in an up-coming collab and yesterday they debuted them in their A/W 2014-15 show. I'm not mad on how they look but dammit, I haven't had light-up feet since I was a child!

Childlike and exuberant are, in fact, the best words to describe the showing. It was all sequins, pastels, princessy skirts and crowns. And I loved it. Some pieces were less than wearable but, overall, pieces could be integrated into many a wardrobe to add fun and flavour. The palette, nods to the nineties and touches of sportswear are nothing new, we've been seeing them season after season, and yet the collection seems fresh and endearing. This is largely down to the execution and styling. There's a lot going on but never really too much - the ruffle dress and ruffle two-piece denim suit are more out there than I could personally handle but they are moments of absolute extremes in a collection of well-handled maximalism that avoids becoming clownish.

PS Yay for the statement ending. "Love Will Win" is kinda the ultimate statement tee for our generation, right?

When did DKNY get so cool?

Like, seriously. 

It's always been the younger, cooler Donna Karan diffusion line but they've really stepped it up a notch. It-Girl and name on everyone's lips, Cara Delvingne is the current campaign girl and their A/W 2013-4 collection is so New York, so modern and impossibly cool. It's been described as an on-point reworking of nineties grunge and sport shapes with playful use of colour. The styling, however, is perfect and makes it particularly relevant to today; sleek, unassuming, unfussy and expertly layered. Expect this to be seen all over the streets next Autumn.

Alexander Wang Pre A/W 2013

He does it again. Such wearable, simple and yet luxurious clothes. So excited to see what he does for Balenciaga! To all the haters, at least let the man put out a show before you complain. I personally think he could do very interesting things for the brand. And waitago for doing it in reverse! That's a first; having your own label and then joining one of the greats.

Guy clothing in a girl way.

I haven't done an outfit post in a bit so here's a quick one! The tee is a recent purchase and is from the men's section in Penney's, I like the idea of wearing guy's clothing in a way that is not manly at all. This outfit comprises a lot of things I like, actually, despite being simple; menswear, luxe sportiness, really modern, urban dressing, staying within a tonal family and breaking "fashion rules". Yes, I've paired black and navy once again. Shock horror. Also, excuse the mess, for some reason my brother is the only one in the house with a full-length mirror - go figure.

Loungewear you been all my life?

I'm loving this jumper. Not a big pink fan in general but this is quite a nice shade, plus it's super-comfy. I went with a kind of cute version of sportswear today with soft hues, a sequin collar and my beloved Alexander Wangesque Topshop shorts. I was just lounging around the house today, too tired to do anything. I've finally gotten a job and become a responsible adult so I'm pooped after a whopper shift last night. Ah, luxurious loungewear; loungewear you been all my life?

Randomly sunny and lovely today. Chaos of new furniture continues in the house so James and I escaped for a while to play tennis down in the ball alley. The graffiti there is some of the lamest, most ridiculous in the world. It's so embarrassing, I posed in front of only the most innocuous of it. For once I was actually playing sport while wearing a sporty outfit. I guess the universe aligns itself like that every now and again.

Being Cool.

Spent the day hanging with one of my oldest and most stylish of friends, Bev. For a day of chilling, Inbetweeners binging, avoiding my Granny's random grumpiness and assing around the house, I needed comfort and slouchy mixed with a touch of fashion. This River Island shirt was purposefully bought over-size so I could wear it as a dress if I so wished but is worn here with Alexander Wang-esque shorts from Topshop underneath for my modesty's sake. Have to give the shirt and the Office runners props for making my legs look so uber-long here! My hair was not behaving so I added this hairband from Topshop to tame it. Not a huge hairband fan (there's something a little childish about them) but I really like this one and the studs complimented the sporty-grunge feel of the outfit. And the sunglasses? What did they bring to the table? (Geddit?) They were just because I'm cool.

Taking the yellow (Apparently it's some sort of cycling reference)

Entirely yellow and sportswear/urban-inspired outfit today. One stressful trip to Ikea and the sudden disappearance of the sun once more and reappearance of the drizzle meant that a sunshine-bright outfit was very much necessary. Nice to spend the day with just me and the 'rents. Added a black hairband to the outfit to lend a touch of the really modern sensibility seen in the styling of Sonia Rykiel A/W 2012. I liked the play of lengths - an over-long Cos muscle tee and cut-off Desigual jeans to a peddle-pusher length - and the simplicity of the restricted palate and clean silhouette.

It was like properly warm for the first time in ages so I cracked out the legs, they're not used to going so long without seeing the sun! I don't quite know what inspired this outfit. It looks kinda beachy, doesn't it? Ready for the beach in peach. 

Too bad I was nowhere near one...

Randomly elaborate jewellery is something I really enjoy and it happened again today. I also love these Topshop shorts, they're quite sporty but with a tweed-like metallic finish that makes me think of the lovechild of a Chanel and Alexander Wang garment - one can dream, right?
