JW Resort 2015

Poetry in clothes is kinda what JW Anderson does. His garments are always captivatingly lovely and interesting. They speak volumes about gender dynamics and our world while managing to still look good. They avoid being trite and come across as his genuine understanding and perspective of the world.

The Resort 2015 collection deconstructs and reforms shirts, trousers and coats. Classic pieces and tailoring are given new life. We're used to seeing these clothes but not in this way. They've been reborn for a new generation of girls. But they're also chic enough to include any other generations that might take a fancy to them.

Anderson's girl is cool. When she walks into the room, people look, and not because she's obvious or sexy, but because she intrigues you and it takes time to analyse what she's wearing and really see it. There's a depth to what she's wearing but it's easy and nonchalant. She doesn't have to try too hard.

Once again, I cannot sing the praises of a JW collection loudly enough. LOVE.

Supersize it, please.

By which I mean: supersize my outerwear, please.

I may or may not have noted here before, the trend of moving from body clinging to skimming in the industry. Already, I'm somewhat of a convert from skinny to boyfriend jeans. This trend is something I can really get behind - I've never really been a fan of bandage dresses or discomfort. I like a little room to breathe, thank you very much. An extension of this is huge outerwear. I'm somewhat of a coat fiend (I blame my mother - her collection is insane) and these hut-like garments that can be snuggled inside are majorly appealing to me. As a teenager I was crazy for thinner coats and jumpers because I was terrified baggier clothing would make me look fat. Since then I've embraced layers and with many of the giant coats that were on the runways for next season, no one could ever mistake their volume for fat - the difference in size between them and your face or arms is too obvious. Another point in their favour is the drama factor; sweeping into a room or down the street in a giant coat makes a statement.

But anyway, here's a round-up of some of my favourites!

Alexander Wang A/W 2013-14 is a bit of a knock-out...

...seriously though.

The silhouettes are so modern and where cool dressing is at - a combination of body skimming and steamlined bulk - seems like an oxymoron, I know, but Wang's managed it. I love the tailored pants and coats, the skirts + bulky jumper combo, the quirky use of fur, the booties, the half-shoe, the restrained palette and the use of leather. There's a lot to love here. And it's not just because he happens to be one of my favourite designers (who can do almost no wrong), either. Sure, there are some pieces I would not wear personally but it's a cohesive and cuddly, somewhat practical collection with a clear vision. 

PS That's not to say I'd be adverse to someone giving me anything from the collection. HINT HINT.

Coats and Jackets from Zara.

Zara, seriously, stop it. Your clothes are too wonderful and I don't have enough money to buy them all. No, really. SQUEEEEEEE.

Okay, I've calmed myself a bit. Zara's offering some amazing coats and jackets for this coming cooler season. Here are just some of the best of the best and my personal favourites:

1. The Sequin Bomber - Because I'm bomber jacket crazy and sequins often spell tack for me but here? Spot on. What kind of damaged individual would say no to a bomber that looks equally good paired with a tee and jeans and a party dress?

2. The Mannish Coat - Because androgyny is in and this coat will never, ever be out. This is a wonderful example of a timeless, wear-til-it-tears garment. A must-have for every wardrobe.

3. Oversized leather - Because it's very versatile. You can make this waistcoat punk, darkly romantic or It-Girl cool. Run with it. Or better yet, run to me with one. Right now.

4. The Achingly Modern Cool - Because you want to be what you wear. This linen jacket is another highly versatile number that is fresh, a unique take on the biker and an easy way to rock A/W pastels.
